Petrojam says no disruption in gas supply anticipated
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The State-owned oil refinery Petrojam Limited is seeking to assure the public that they anticipate no disruption in gasolene supply from their facilities, despite reports of a possible interruption in the supply to the market.
In a statement to today, the company says it is not party to any discussions about a “petrol trade shutdown”.
The Jamaica Gasolene Retailers Association (JGRA) yesterday warned motorists to brace themselves for a shutdown of the petroleum trade of “crisis proportions”. The JGRA also warned the Government to move immediately to implement measures to harmonise and properly regulate the trade so that dealers do not continue to be “at the mercy of multinational petroleum marketing companies”.
The shutdown of the petroleum trade, the JGRA warned, would be no ordinary suspension of service as it would involve all the players, including service stations, tanker drivers, and Petrojam.
However, Petrojam, in denying any involvement, said it is committed to competitively supplying Jamaica with a full range of petroleum products.
