Plane makes emergency landing in Dominican Republic
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (CMC) – A Russian plane was forced to make an emergency landing late Wednesday at the Punta Cana Airport after one of its engines caught fire en route to Moscow.
The Air Oreair flight 553 with 351 Russian tourists and 20 crew, departed Punta Cana shortly after 6:00 pm (local time) on Wednesday, when two hours into the flight, a failure in one engine was reported, forcing the crew to make an emergency landing after circling over the area for close to two hours.
The plane was carrying more than 80 tons of fuel for the flight, some of which had to be dumped before an attempt was made to land the aircraft.
There were no reports of injuries.
