Police gear up for Parliament opening
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) are currently gathered outside Gordon House in Kingston in preparation for today’s ceremonial opening of Parliament.
The proceedings, which mark the beginning of the 2016/17 legislative year, are expected to get underway at 10:25 am with the arrival and seating of distinguished guests.
It will feature a parade by a guard of honour formed by members of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) and the Mounted Police.
The opening will be highlighted by the delivery of the Throne Speech by Governor General Sir Patrick Allen, who will outline the Government’s priorities for the new fiscal year, which began on April 1.
The House of Representatives will reconvene at 2:00 pm for the tabling of the 2016/2017 Estimates of Expenditure by Minister of Finance and the Public Service Audley Shaw.
The estimates will provide details on Government spending for the fiscal year, including allocations for recurrent (housekeeping) and capital (development) expenses.
