Carpenter charged in connection with 2022 double murder
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A 52-year-old carpenter has been charged with two counts of murder following the 2022 shooting deaths of two men and the wounding of another.
Police say Dennis Mundell, otherwise called ‘Ginseng,’ of a Spanish Town address, was also charged with wounding with intent, illegal possession of a firearm and illegal possession of ammunition in connection with the September 6, 2022 incident.
The deceased men, 39-year-old building contractor Andy Christian and 24-year-old accounting clerk Javari Stephens, otherwise called ‘Bigga,’ were shot dead at the intersection of McDonald Place and Olympic Way, Kingston 11.
According to reports from the Duhaney Park police, about 5:00 pm, Mundell and his accomplices, who were allegedly armed with handguns and travelling in a grey Toyota Axio motor car, approached a group of people gathered on a section of the roadway.
The men reportedly opened fire on the group before fleeing the scene in the waiting vehicle. When the shooting subsided, Christian, Stephens, and another man were seen with gunshot wounds.
They were transported to the hospital, where Christian and Stephens were pronounced dead. The third victim was treated for his injuries.
Following investigations into the incident, detectives implicated Mundell as one of the alleged shooters.
He was subsequently charged after participating in a question-and-answer session in the presence of his attorney and after being identified during an identification parade.
A court date is being finalised for him.
