Protesting residents block road in Portmore by-election
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — Tension was high among political factions this morning in Lakes Pen St Catherine as a section of the Quarrie Hill main road was blocked, preventing several people from voting.
OBSERVER ONLINE was informed that the residents were protesting the mounting of orange paraphernalia at the Lakes Pen Basic School polling station.
The police were called in to clear the roadblock.
Political Ombudsman Donna Parchment Brown, who was alerted to the scene, told OBSERVER ONLINE that the “small problem” was resolved.
“There was a little issue at Lakes Pen because of flags and fabrics that had been mounted. So potentially there was some tension but everything is fine now,” Parchment Brown said, adding that no other incident has been reported.
