Regional UWI guild calls for support of LGBT students
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Regional University of the West Indies Guild of Students has called for support of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students locally.
Speaking at a press conference at the Mona campus where representatives from Cave Hill, St Augustine, and Open Campus were present the agreement was that shunning such students will lead to no good.
Dalano DaSouza, guild president at Cave Hill said more dialogue between guidance counsellors and LGBT students should be encouraged as shunning only affects their development later on in life.
“It affects their development, interaction with families and ability to interact in society,” he said.
DaSouza added that buggery laws are archaic and should be streamlined and revised so that no one is left disenfranchised.
