Rush on to get enumerated in St Andrew Western
ST ANDREW, Jamaica — The Electoral Office of Jamaica’s St Andrew Western office is reporting a surge in the number of people who want to get enumerated before the September 30 deadline.
The office manager, who opted not to give her name, told OBSERVER ONLINE a short while ago, that there was a “mad rush” of people this morning.
She said a greater number of people are expected during the lunch hour.
Last week, Director of Elections Orrette Fisher told OBSERVER ONLINE that by September 30, the EOJ will be in a position to successfully run an election, if the prime minister decides to “call it”.
A general election is constitutionally due by December 2016, but it is widely speculated that it will be held before the end of this year.
People who register before the deadline will be eligible to vote should an election be called before the end of this year.
The voters’ list is published twice a year, May 30 and November 30.
