Sarwan seeks place in Jamaica Franchise squad
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Guyana-born batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan is expected to try out for the Jamaica Scorpions franchise for the upcoming 2015-16 regional professional cricket season.
OBSERVER ONLINE has learnt that Sarwan, the former West Indies captain, is expected to be in Jamaica for fitness tests on September 1 and 2 when contracted players will undergo physical evaluations.
The trial match is scheduled for September 11 and 12.
If selected as part of the squad, the 35-year-old, who is said to be registered to play for Kingston CC in the local 50-over club cricket competition, will be paid based on the games he plays in.
Sarwan, whose fitness was called into question on a number of occasions during his senior career with the West Indies, made his Test debut against Pakistan in Barbados in May 2000 and has played 87 matches at that level.
He averages 40.01 with the bat and has scored 15 Test centuries.
In 181 One-Day International matches, Sarwan averages 42.67 and has scored five hundreds.
