Seven lottery scammers plead guilty
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) is reporting that seven St James residents have pleaded guilty to Lottery Scam charges and were sentenced recently in the Montego Bay Circuit Court.
They were each charged with breaching section 10 (1) of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions) (Special Provisions) Act, 2013 (Being in Possession of Identity Information).
They are:
1. Conroy Thompson, who pleaded guilty to the offence on December 1. He was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment at hard labour, suspended for 12 months, and fined $50,000 or 12 months in prison at hard labour on December 15.
2. Odale Johnson, who pleaded guilty on Monday and was subsequently fined 50,000 or 12 months in prison at hard labour.
3. Everol Johnson, who pleaded guilty on December 7 and was on Monday sentenced to 12 months imprisonment at hard labour, suspended for 12 months, and fined $30,000 or 12 months in prison at hard labour.
4. Jonothon Streete, who pleaded guilty on December 8 and was subsequently fined $50,000 on December 15.
5. David Thorpe, who pleaded guilty on December 13, and was later sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, and fined $50,000 or 12 months in prison.
6. Troy Dennison, who pleaded guilty on December 8, and was later that day fined $50,000.
7. Mellisa Harvey, who pleaded guilty on December 14 and was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment suspended for 12 months and fined $50,000 or 12 months in imprisonment.
