KINGSTON, Jamaica — President of the People’s National Party (PNP), Portia Simpson Miller, today announced a special team to oversee the implementation of the recommendations from the appraisal committee that examined reasons for the party’s defeat in February’s general election.
Simpson Miller told the National Executive Council (NEC), the highest decision making body of the PNP outside of annual conference, that the committee would be co-chaired by former minister and high commissioner to the UK Aloun Assamba and former ambassador to China and Washington, Ralph Thomas.
According to a release from the party, the ten member committee will include representatives from the Women’s Movement, the PNPYO and the NWU.
The PNP president was acting upon her commitment given to the delegates and members of the party at the annual conference on September 18 that she would announce the team by the first NEC meeting of the political year.

She charged the members of the special team to do everything in their power to ensure that the recommendations are implemented on a timely and efficient basis.
The special team will monitor the implementation of the recommendations whilst the secretariat of the party will be responsible for implementing the recommendations, the release added.
The special team is to commence its work immediately. The team is required to report to the PNP president and the executive committee of the party on a monthly basis and to all meetings of the NEC.
