A young man spewed hatred towards his mother and refused to acknowledge that she was his mother despite her telling the court repeatedly that he was her son.

The woman, Marvalyn Williamson, was taken before the court on a charge of unlawful wounding after she flung a bottle at her son and it shattered and cut the young man on his hand.

On Tuesday when the matter was mentioned, the complainant could not contain his anger. And when he was asked what was his relation with the accused he said loudly: “Nutten.”

Williams then told the court that he was her son, but he kept on saying, “She is not mi mada.” The complainant then turned to the magistrate and asked her, “If you had a son would you ill-treat him?”

“From me young this woman a ill-treat me,” he said at the top of his voice. “She don’t know how to grow children.” The magistrate tried to calm the young man, but his anger intensified.

“A six a we she have, one turn prostitute, fi har mistake mek one a we dead, and who a nuh gunman a thief. “You see the cut inna har face, a man yard she go and man beat har,” he said.

He was told by the magistrate to speak to his mother with respect, but he shouted out: “I don’t want to speak to her. She disgust me!

“This woman mek people a scandal me and everybody inna my community don’t respect me,” he said.

After the young man seemed to have got off most of what he wanted to say about his mother, he appeared a bit calmer and the magistrate told him that while he could not choose his parents, he could choose how he behaved and that he needed to have respect for his parents.

Williamson then told the court: “ All weh him say is not true.

“A talk to him fada fi come talk to him and him say me muss gwaan go mek a bus run ova me head,” she said. The woman in her defence told the magistrate that it was her son who had first flung a bottle at her.

She was subsequently ordered to pay $30,000 or serve six months in prison.
