Thompson finishes 3rd in 200m at Brussels Diamond League meet
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson had to settle for third place behind World Championships 200-metre champion Dafne Schippers and American Alison Felix at Friday’s season-ending Diamond League meet in Brussels, Belgium.
Schippers saw off the challenge of Felix (22.22 seconds) and Thompson (22.26 seconds), running to a time of 22.12 seconds.
Felix led coming off the bend, drawn in lane five outside Thompson but inside Schippers.
But the 23-year-old Dutch sprinter, who also won world 100m silver, produced her trademark powerful final 50 metres to outstrip the American, who has won three world 200m titles and is the reigning Olympic champion, having previously bagged silver at the 2004 and 2008 Games in a sparkling career.
