Three injured in Portland crash
PORTLAND, Jamaica — Three people were on Saturday hospitalised due to injuries received in a two-vehicle crash in Hope Bay along the North Coast Highway in Portland.
According to the police, about 8:40 pm a white Honda Civic motor car was travelling east, towards Port Antonio when on reaching a section of the roadway, the driver failed to properly negotiate a corner. While trying to avoid hitting a garbage truck to the left, the motor car collided head-on with a red Lexus SUV, which was travelling in the opposite direction.
The impact reportedly spun the Honda Civic out of control causing it to slam into a utility pole before landing in a coconut field. Police said the driver fell from the car.
The occupants of both vehicles were rushed to the Port Antonio Hospital where one man was admitted in serious condition with a head injury. He was later transferred to a Kingston hospital for treatment.
The other two victims are said to have broken limbs.
The Hope Bay Police are investigating the matter.
