Three of 4 Canadian women on drug rap offered bail
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Three of the four Canadian women charged with breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act last Saturday were offered bail when they appeared in court yesterday.
The fourth woman was remanded until legal representation could be secured, and was given a mention date for next Tuesday. Her co-accused were granted bail in the sum of $800,000, and are to return to court on Wednesday, October 5.
The women, Karen Roberto, Jacques Moukoury, Kelly Barradas and Mariah Holland, all of Ontario addresses in Canada were charged with possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine and taking steps preparatory to export cocaine.
They were arrested on Wednesday, August 31 about 7:15 pm, when, after checking in to board a flight to Canada, their belongings were searched and 14 bottles of liquid cocaine found.
A fifth woman who had also been arrested was released during the course of investigations.
