Titchfield student named top Jamaican science student
PORTLAND, Jamaica — A student at the Titchfield High School in Portland has been adjudged the top science student in Jamaica by the Jamaica Association of Principals of Secondary Schools (JAPSS).
She is Shavine McLean, a lower sixth former pursuing the sciences and looking forward to a career in medicine. She hopes to follow in the footsteps of her older sister, who is completing third-year studies in Medical Science at the University of the West Indies, Mona.
Shavine was happy to be awarded the top science student in Jamaica although she is yet to receive the award due to her absence from the awards function.
“When I heard I was elated! I’m Jamaica’s top science student. I worked really hard and now I hacve realised it really paid off. I was very nervous throughout my CSEC journey and to see that it has borne this fruit, made me realise that I can achieve anything” she told OBSERVER ONLINE through broad smiles.
Shavine achieved nine grade ones at the CXC level in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Human and Social Biology, Mathematics, Add Mathematics, Information Technology, English A and Literature and a two for Spanish.
