Tom Laing releases EP
Singer Tom Laing recently released the seven-track EP, Love is Ok, on
Top Tier Records. It is produced by Donni Marshall and distributed by
VPAL Music.
Love is Ok is driven by the title track, a collaboration with British
singer Myrrh-cedez Gayle. Diner, King’s Highway, Prayer and a cover of
Gregory Isaacs’ Front Door are some of the other songs on the EP.
Laing, whose real name is Fitz Albert Laing, has been recording
professionally since 2005. Originally from Trench Town, he migrated to
Florida in 1978 and has lived in Brooklyn, New York since 2000.
“Everything I am and became, I owe it all to Trench Town. Whenever
Bob (Marley) was going on tour we all knew because he would rehearse for
days. We would stand on the outside trying to get a glimpse of the
rehearsal. That was one of the earliest influences in me deciding to
pursue music,” said Laing.
Laing recorded It’s Not Over, his first professional song, was done
for producer Fragga Ranks. Even though the breakthrough has been
elusive, he is not concerned about being on top.
“I try to be consistent as an artiste in terms of putting out quality
songs and production. That to me is more important than the hype,” he
told this column.
