Traffic changes to facilitate Mandela Highway roadwork
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Works Agency (NWA) on Wednesday said that there will be changes to the flow of traffic along the Mandela Highway to facilitate the construction of the southern abutment to the overpass bridge, effective Sunday.
According to a release from the agency, a detour route will be in effect near the Hydel Group of Schools but it will only impact motorists heading from the direction of six miles towards Spanish Town.
Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw said that the overpass bridge will facilitate access to the schools, business establishments, police station and the Ferry community. Two bridges are now under construction as part of the US$64-million road improvement project.
Shaw added that more changes will be coming in the next few weeks as the contractors ramp up the activities.
He said that these changes will be announced as soon as all stakeholders have been engaged and all technical issues addressed.
Motorists are being reminded to obey the instructions of flag persons and posted warning signs, while traversing the Mandela Highway.
