Shaw bags brace as Man City get WSL title defence off to winning start
Khadija “Bunny” Shaw picked up where she left off last season as she scored a brace to help lift defending champions Manchester City to a 3-1 win over Birmingham City in their Women’s Super League opener on Sunday.
The Jamaican striker headed home unmarked in the 54th minute to open her account for the season and double City’s lead after Mary Fowler had put them ahead in the 49th minute with a low drive into the bottom corner.
Shaw bagged her second in the 86th minute with a similar headed goal to put Man City three goals clear before Birmingham pulled one back in the 90th minute through Oceane Hurtre.
Shaw won an array of awards last season as she was rewarded for scoring 21 goals on the way to a third straight Golden Boot and securing City’s first Women’s Super League title for a decade, and also the FA Cup.
