WINDALCO offers reward for stolen cattle
ST ANN, Jamaica — The Praedial Larceny Prevention Unit (PLPU) is seeking the public’s assistance in locating six cows that were stolen from WINDALCO’s farm in St Ann between Wednesday, September 14 and Thursday, September 22.
The police say the cattle have the following ID numbers:
1. JXO266/05- crossbred red calf.
2. JX0530/16-crossbred white calf.
3. JX0131/16- crossbred red calf.
4. JX0209/16-crossbred red calf.
5. JX0028/13- pregnant Red Poll.
6. JX0277/13 –pregnant Red Poll.
Reports from the police are that during a routine check, the animals were discovered missing and the matter reported to the police.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kevin Francis, who heads the PLPU, is reminding citizens that a heifer or pregnant animal must not be slaughtered unless it is inspected by a registered veterinary surgeon who certifies, in writing, that the animal is fit for human consumption as also by the public health inspector within the parish.
The police say failure to do so constitutes a breach of the Livestock Control Order (1973) and the Public Health Act.
WINDALCO is offering a reward of $60,000 to anyone with information that can assist the police in their investigations or lead to the recovery of the cattle or arrest of the culprits.
The police are asking people with information to contact the Praedial Larceny Prevention Unit at 1-888-429-5662, police 119 emergency number, Crime Stop at 311, or the nearest police station.
