Portmore captures End-of-Round final

PORTMORE United captured the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) First End-of-Round final clipping Tivoli Gardens 2-0 at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.

A double by strike from Tremaine Stewart in the ninth and 90th minutes, enabled Portmore United to walk away with the $250,000 first prize and avenged an earlier defeat to Tivoli Gardens. The losers pocketed $150,000.

It wasn’t the most exciting final but fans were threated to Red Stripe’s two new beer brands of Red Stripe Light Apple and Ginger flavours.

Plus associate sponsor Jamaica Public Service (JPS) had cash give aways of $3,000 and $5,000 for questions during the half time break.

The game started briskly with Tivoli Gardens dominating early possession but it was Portmore which scored against the run of play.

Tivoli Gardens came close on a number of ocassions but poor shooting and poor decision making in front of goal proved to be their downfall.

It got even worse for Tivoli Gardens when left back Dwayne Holmes picked up his second yellnow card in the 80th minute.

Coach Glendon Bailey went into his deck of cards, bringing on strikers Roland Dean and Christopher Nicholas, in the 88th minute but it was Portmore which had the say as Stewart sealed the win on a counter attack.
