Granville secure St James title
GRANVILLE secured the Hart Shield St James premier league football title, when they played to a 1-1 draw in the second-leg final at Ironshore last Saturday.
Granville won 3-1 on aggregate at Altobar’s home ground, after securing a 2-0 lead in their home match in the first leg at the UDC field in Montego Bay.
The Barrett Town team failed to make it to their second Western Confed play-offs in three years, while Granville last played in this competition four years ago.
The winners of the St James, Hanover, Trelawny and Westmoreland club competitions will participate in the Western Confed play-offs, which is usually a home-and-away series, from which the winner will gain a berth in the National ‘A’ League.
In Trelawny the competition has reached the semifinal stages, while the Hanover championship is at the mid-stage of its league.
Both Granville and Altobar had identical 3-2 aggregate wins over Catherine Hall and Seaview respectively in their two-way semifinals.
