Norwood man charged with date rape
St James man, who reportedly raped his date whom he had booked into a hotel, will return to court on April 30.
He is on a $60,000 bail.
The man, Donavan Golding, 23, of Norwood district is accused of raping a 25-year-old woman on April 1, this year.
Allegations are that Golding met the complainant while both were taking a taxi to the community of Norwood, St James. He reportedly invited the woman to the Margauritaville nightclub, after which he checked her into the Harbour Way Hotel in downtown Montego Bay.
The woman reported that, while at the hotel, Golding sexually assaulted her, and punched her in the mouth during the attack. The matter was reported to the police who arrested and charged Golding with rape.
Defence attorney, Trevor Holyn, has raised the issue of consent, stating that outside of the allegations of being punched in the mouth, the crown had very little to prove its case.
When Golding returns to court, the prosecution expects to have another statement from a witness on file.
