Mair to contest Sandy Bay division of Hanover PC
WESTERN BUREAU — The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) on Sunday night presented 36 year-old businessman, Lindel Mair as its candidate to contest the Sandy Bay Division of the Hanover Parish Council.
Despite the power outage in Cascade Square, Mair was presented to party supporters under candle light and bottle torches by Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) constituency caretaker for Eastern Hanover, Barrington Grey.
Earlier in the day, the party held a motorcade throughout the division. As the motorcade journeyed through the communities of Sandy Bay, Jericho, Patty Hill, Maryland and Claremont, scores of Jamaica Labour Party supporters lined the streets to greet their new candidate.
In his address to supporters of the party in the Cascade Square, Mair vowed to tackle the lack of skills training for the youth in the area, re-introduce farming in several communities in the division, and give priority attention to the roads in the area.
“I would like to see more training centres in the area and the growing of more crops,” Mair told the meeting. He added that he intends to work diligently with the JLP caretaker /candidate for the constituency of Eastern Hanover, Barrington Grey, in an effort to bring meaningful changes to the Sandy Bay division.
The Sandy Bay division is presently represented by the People’s National Party (PNP) Lloyd Hill.
Hill, who is the Mayor of Lucea and Chairman of the Hanover Parish Council, will, however, not represent the PNP in that division whenever the local government election is called. Instead, he is to replace sitting PNP member of parliament for Eastern Hanover, Canute Brown as the PNP’s candidate in the next general election.
