TPDCo stages beautification fair in ‘Ochi’ tomorrow
THE Tourism Product and Development Company (TPDCo) will tomorrow stage a beautification fair in Ocho Rios as part of the organisation’s efforts to engage the community in the beautification of the town.
Tomorrow’s fair, according to TPDCo’s executive director, Karl Binger, was formulated as a tool to encourage businesses and other persons who have a stake in the town, to buy into the improvement of the physical environment of the resort area.
“Over the past six months TPDCo has surveyed the town and has identified areas which could be improved to enhance the aesthetic value of the town,” Binger said.
He further noted that based on the survey, TPDCo had developed proposed beautification designs for the areas which will be unveiled at the beautification fair.
Under its Sustaining the Environment and Tourism (SET) programme and the Streetscape Programme, TPDCO has been carrying out work aimed at beautifying the town of Ocho Rios, as well as improving safety and visitor convenience.
The Streetscape Programme aims at improving the facade of buildings in resort towns, while projects undertaken under the SET programme includes the erection of signs; planting of trees along the Ocho Rios Bypass; and education and training programmes for vendors in hygiene, environment and food safety.
The fair will also feature a lunch-hour concert and exhibits from environmental and solid waste agencies as well as local business involved in hardware supplies and landscaping.
