Three of four killed by cops now identified
POLICE have now identified three of the four men who were shot dead following a high-speed car chase which ended in a canefield at Worthy Park near Ewarton in St Catherine on Wednesday.
The bodies identified yesterday are those of Jovan Campbell, 20, and Gregory Sharpe, 19, both of Charlton Drive, Ewarton, St Catherine. The third man was identified on Wednesday as Glenroy Stewart, 22, of Alden District in St Ann.
The police’s information arm, the Constabulary Communication Network, had said Wednesday that Stewart was on bail for the murder of Kenneth Mitchell who was shot dead in January last year.
The four men, according to the police, were among a group of five who held up a bar in Sandside District, St Mary on Tuesday night and robbed the bartender of dozens of bottles of rum, and later robbed a bus conductor of $1,400.
The Mitsubishi motorcar in which the men were travelling was intercepted by the St Mary Flying Squad who chased them across the border into St Ann.
A police party from St Ann joined the pursuit in the Moneague area, but the gunmen managed to cross into St Catherine and got police from that parish involved in the chase which ended on a dirt track in Worthy Park.
Police said the men engaged them in a shoot-out in which the four were shot. The fifth man escaped. Two firearms, one with the serial number erased, were taken from the dead men, police said.
