$8.5M Trelawny road rehab
WESTERN BUREAU — The $8.5-million rehabilitation of five and a half miles of roadway in North Trelawny should be completed in another two weeks, according to Member of Parliament Wendell Stewart.
The work, which began last year, is being done by the National Works Agency (NWA) under the Deferred Finance Programme and spans a section of road from Wakefield to Bunkers Hill. It involves the paving of sections of the roadway and the installation of curbs and channels.
Stewart noted that the roadway has been in a deplorable state for the past 20 years, and was the cause of much concern to both motorists and residents in the area.
In this regard, he called on the Ministry of Transport and Works to make funds available to repair other roads in his constituency that were damaged during the January 2001, flood rains.
“Although estimates for repairs to be done on the Hampden to Wakefield, Clark’s Town to Sherwood Content and the Salt Marsh to Kent main roads have been submitted since last year, work is yet to begin,” Stewart said.
But according to Community Relations Officer at the National Works Agency (NWA), Stephen Shaw, work will commence shortly on some of these roads.
“The final designs on the Hampden to Wakefield road have been completed and a contract is to be awarded soon, while work on the Clark’s Town to Sherwood Content main road is expected to begin by June,” Shaw said.
