Donna Duncan-Scott is Observer Business Leader
DONNA Duncan Scott, managing director of Jamaica Money Market Brokers (JMMB), was last night presented with the Jamaica Observer Business Leader 2001 Award, at a dinner held at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston last night. Here Duncan-Scott accepts the award from chairman of the Jamaica Observer, Gordon “Butch” Stewart.
A report from the selection panel, said Duncan-Scott presides over a company that has $41 billion in funds under its management, representing a doubling of the portolio in the two years that she has been at the helm.
In the financial year to the end of February 2001, JMMB returned a profit of $320 million, representing a return of average shareholder equity of over 40 per cent.
“The company has 60,000 clients, reflecting Mrs Duncan-Scott’s philosophy of opening money market investments to ordinary Jamaicans. In this regard, JMMB has established five new branches within the last two years, including three in Trinidad and Tobago where JMMB is popularising the money market,” said the report.
It added: “But beyond the coldness of the numbers is the warm, human side of Donna-Duncan Scott. Like her mother, with whom she worked closely at the founding of JMMB, Mrs Duncan-Scott brings a spirituality to the workplace and is deeply committed to renewal and training.
“JMMB, in that regard, is a model in Jamaica as a working environment that promotes fellowship and openness between staff at all levels.”
