NWA repairing roads in the West
THE National Works Agency (NWA) says it has already completed asphalt paving on five road projects in Western Jamaica under two of its road improvement programmes.
According to the NWA, work has been completed on the Seaford Town to Dundee, Marchmont to Seaford Town and the Grange to Friendship roads in the parish of Westmoreland. Work has also been completed, the agency said, on the Green Island to Glasgow, and Riley Bridge to Glasgow main roads in Hanover, as well as the Salt Marsh to Kent main road in Trelawny.
Three of the roads, covering areas from Marchmont to Seaford Town, Seaford Town to Dundee and Salt Marsh to Kent, were rehabilitated under the government’s $3-billion National Road Improvement Programme (NARIP). The others were done through the $197-million Major Patching contract, which was signed in Montego Bay in May this year.
Major rehabilitation work is now underway on another 46 projects in the region and these projects are between 10 and 95 per cent complete, the NWA said.
Among these roads are the Chester Castle to Jacks Gate, Negril to Negril Lighthouse and Jerusalem to Mount Eagle in Westmoreland.
In Trelawny, work is underway on the Jackson Town to Ulster Spring, Laughton to Lorrimers and Albert Town to Troy main roads.
The Cambridge to Retrieve, Maroon Town to Point and Sign to Guilsbro main roads in St James, as well as the Shettlewood to Mackfield road in Hanover are also being rehabilitated — all under the NARIP.
According to the NWA, “significant progress” has also been made on projects under the Major Patching Programme. Among the roads that are now being repaired are Kew to Jericho and Lethe to Burnt Ground in Hanover, as well as the Torrington to Pennycooke and Hertford to Flower Hill in Westmoreland. The Anchovy to Mount Horeb and Orange Hill to Stonehedge in St James roads are also being rehabilitated. Work is also underway on the Deeside to Dromily main road in Trelawny, the agency said.
