St Ann’s Bay CDF disburses $4 million
ST ANN’S BAY, St Ann – The St Ann’s Bay Community Development Fund (CDF) has disbursed $4 million in loans to 28 persons in St Ann, over the six-month period ending June 30, this year.
Parish officer, Camille Johnson, told JIS News that the disbursements were made to sectors including agriculture, services and manufacturing, among others.
The highest amount of $1.5 million was disbursed to services.
The CDF parish office said a deposit of 25 per cent of the loan amount is required as security. The minimum amount being loaned to applicants is $20,000 while the maximum is $300,000.
Glenmuir High celebrates 44 years
MAY PEN, Clarendon – Glenmuir High School in Clarendon celebrated its 44th anniversary with a special Founder’s Day service of thanksgiving at the school, recently.
The institution was founded on September 15, 1958, by the late Percival William Gibson, Anglican Lord Bishop of Jamaica at that time.
Guest speaker at the ceremony, Norma Thompson, chaplin of Church Teachers’ College in Mandeville, encouraged the students to make use of the educational opportunities provided at the school, so they could become fully rounded individuals.
Hanover, Westmoreland recognise senior citizens
SAVANNA-LA-MAR, Westmoreland – Twenty senior citizens from Hanover and Westmoreland were recently recognised for their achievements by the National Council for Senior Citizens (NCSC), Westmoreland branch.
They were presented with certificates of excellence and gift packages at an awards function held at the United Church Hall in Savanna-la-Mar. The function formed part of activities being held in the western parishes to observe Senior Citizens’ Month.
Joyce Woodstock of the Darliston Golden Age Club, walked away with the ‘Best Achiever’ award, while the ‘Most Co-operative President and Volunteer’ awards were presented to Ivabess Crooks DeGrella of Darliston Club Number One and Dorrett Forbes of Kew Park/Lambs River Golden Age Club, respectively. The other recipients received Certificates of Excellence in culinary art, needle work and art and craft.
Staceyville All Age gets 15 new computers
Clarendon – The National Housing Trust (NHT) recently handed over 15 computers to the Staceyville All-Age School in northern Clarendon as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations.
These are in addition to the provision of a fully equipped computer laboratory fitted with workstations, chairs, a teacher’s station and an air conditioning unit.
The NHT has also provided Internet connection as well as a commitment to maintain the laboratory for two years.
And, through a joint effort with the Jamaica Computer Society Education Foundation, the trust has also given the school software to assist students with reading and mathematics, as well as training in the appropriate technology for four teachers and one laboratory administrator.
