Westmoreland man on murder charge denied bail
A Westmoreland man accused of crushing a farmer to death by running his tractor over him, was remanded in custody when he appeared in the Savanna-la-Mar Resident Magistrate’s Court Tuesday morning.
The court denied the bail application made by attorney Vernon Ricketts for his client, Glendon Warren, a 33-year-old labourer and set another mention date for March 14 after it was revealed that the case file was not complete.
The allegation against Warren is that on February 9, at about 1:15 am, he had an argument with 41 year-old Selvin Williams at a party in Three Miles River.
Warren reportedly went to his home nearby and returned driving a Massey Ferguson tractor, which he allegedly used to run over Williams, who was near the road.
Williams was taken to the Savanna-la-Mar General Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.
Warren allegedly fled, but later turned himself in to the Frome Police.
Meanwhile, St Catherine truck driver, 33 year-old Radcliffe Cameron, will have to return to court on March 25 to answer to a manslaughter charge in connection with the February 13 death of Westmoreland resident, 31 year-old Cordel Gunning.
Cameron, who also appeared in the Savanna-la-Mar Resident Magistrate’s Court Tuesday, was granted $1 million bail, with a surety.
Attorneys Michael Erskine and Michael Brown are representing him.
Cameron is alleged to have been driving his Leyland truck in a westerly direction along the Negril main road, when he lost control of the vehicle and collided with a Toyota Corolla being driven by Gunning.
Gunning, a resident of Little London, was taken to the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital then later transferred to the Kingston Public Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries the following morning.
