Elderly woman hit from bicycle, dies
BREASTWORKS, Portland — Seventy-four year-old Katherine Anderson died yesterday after she was hit from the pillion seat of her husband’s bicycle as they travelled along the Red Hassle main road in Port Antonio.
The fatal accident took place at about 9:30 am and Anderson became the parish’s fifth traffic fatality since the start of the year.
Katherine received multiple injuries to her body and head and was reported dead on arrival at the Port Antonio General Hospital. Her husband Robert, who also received multiple injuries, was admitted in stable but serious condition.
The couple was reportedly hit from behind by a truck owned and driven by a 56 year-old man of Fellowship district in the parish. He was taken into police custody and the truck seized, as the Port Antonio traffic police commenced investigations into the incident.
Earlier in the day, the lawmen responded to another accident in the vicinity of the San San Beach where a Cherokee Jeep crashed into a Toyota Corolla while reportedly attempting to overtake a truck. The jeep and car were severely damaged but the damage to the truck was minor. No one was injured in that accident.
