ORACABESSA — The Ocho Rios branch of Jamaica Money Market Brokers and the Pryce Computer Education Foundation (PCEF) of St Mary donated a computer to the Oracabessa Adult Learning Centre and immediately urged potential users to grasp opportunities for training.

“You are here for a purpose and not just born to live and die; you are the future of the country,” JMMB’s branch manager Horace Wildes told the young people in the audience, adding that he was passionate about changing lives of the people.

According to Wildes, his company was proud to be associated with helping to educate members of the community. He told the Observer that his company had also made a donation towards the training of several children and adults in the use of the computer. The training was undertaken by the PCEF.

Clive Pryce of PCEF, whose company provided the computer, said the donation represented his efforts to give something back to Jamaica. Since returning to Jamaica, after several years in America, Pryce established the computer foundation and has donated several hours to the training of persons in St Mary and St Ann in the use of the computer.

Pryce had approached JMMB with the idea of contributing to the adult centre, an extension of the Jamaica Movement for the Advancement of Literacy (JAMAL) that serves both adults and children.

Meanwhile, Samuel Lyons, parish manager for JAMAL St Ann/St Mary, said the centre has grown tremendously with students exhibiting a very high level of enthusiasm.

“The computer will serve only to highlight this enthusiasm,” Lyons remarked. He commended JMMB for recognising the link between personal and human development, and commercial development. He said the computer would enable young people to log on to empowerment and education and to use it for personal advancement
