Beaches GM named honourary citizen of New Orleans
NEGRIL, Westmoreland — Beaches Negril’s general manager, Clifton Reader, has been named honourary citizen of the City of New Orleans.
Mayor of New Orleans C, Ray Nagin, conferred the honour on Reader during a visit to the hotel, which he described as a centre of excellence.
“I thought that New Orleans was the best in food, festivals and taking care of visitors until I came to Beaches Negril,” remarked the Nagin.
He was a guest at a cocktail party for the 21 hotel employees who were successful in a six-month training course.
During the course, staff members went through rigorous training, becoming Certified Hospitality Departmental Trainers (CHDT). They will now be required to train other members of staff.
The 21 employees were drawn from at least 10 sections of the resort and were essentially taught how to conduct training in these departments.
According to training manager at Beaches Negril, Yaniris Medina, the next step is for them to become Certified Hospitality Trainers (CHT).
“Now that you are trained you are expected to go out and train others for the betterment of the hotel,” explained Reader.
“The company took the time out to give you the necessary training and your duty is to give back,” he added. “You should not get knowledge and keep it to yourself.”
Reader, who entered the hospitality industry as a Food and Beverage cashier, described the training programme as a vehicle to development, as it is through this process that more general managers will come from within the ranks.
