Cops face multiple charges in May Pen court
MAY PEN, Clarendon – Three police officers will return to the May Pen Criminal Court on March 8 to answer charges of robbery with aggravation, conspiracy to steal cocaine and assault at common law.
They had their bail extended when they appeared in court on Monday.
They are:
. 39 year-old Constable Newton Bentley of the Kingston mobile reserve;
. 35 year-old Corporal Rohan White; and
. 46 year-old Sergeant Neville White, both attached to the Clarendon Division.
According to the prosecution, on November 30 last year the three policemen went to a house at Merrivale Meadows in Palmers Cross, Clarendon, where they demanded guns and narcotics drugs from the occupants.
The plaintiffs have alleged that the cops searched the house, before leaving with a cell phone valued at $4,000. A report was lodged with senior officers at the Clarendon Divisional headquarters, and following the collection of statements a file was forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for a ruling.
Acting DPP, Bryan Sykes, subsequently ruled that the three policemen be arrested and charged.
The cops were first granted $150,000 bail last December.
