Two men shot dead in St James
WESTERN BUREAU – Two men – 22 year-old John Forrest of a Rose Heights address and 36 year-old Cory Wynter of Felicity, Glendevon – died in St James Saturday from gunshot wounds they received in separate incidents.
According to the St James police, Wynter was at a bar in Paradise, Norwood at about 4:00 pm when a car drove up and a man armed with a gun alighted from the car. Wynter ran and was chased by the man who shot him.
Wynter was taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Montego Bay Central Intelligence Bureau, which is investigating the murder, has not yet established a motive.
In the second incident, Forrest was one of a group of men who allegedly engaged the police in a shoot-out at Farm Heights.
Police say that at about 7:50 pm, cops conducting a routine patrol in Farm Heights saw a group of men who they said were “acting suspiciously”.
The men reportedly pulled guns and opened fire at the police party, sparking an exchange.
When the shooting stopped, the area was searched and Forrest was found. A 9mm pistol was allegedly taken from him and he was taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Bureau of Special Investigations is probing the incident.
According to John Morris, the crime chief for Area One, Forrest was on bail after being arrested for murder and shooting. Forrest, the crime chief said, was due to return to court on Wednesday this week.
