Family tragedy
DETECTIVES from the North St Catherine Police Division in Spanish Town were last night hunting for Christopher Oliver, who is suspected of bludgeoning his mother and two brothers to death, and injuring his sister and her three-year-old son at their home in Twickenham Heights in the parish.
According to the police, Oliver went berserk and attacked his mother, three siblings and a nephew with a sledge hammer and a knife at about 10:30 pm Thursday. After allegedly mauling his relatives, Oliver reportedly fled the scene.
The police said Oliver’s mother, Myrtle Oliver, 48, died on the spot, while his two younger brothers, Oneil, 17, and Omar Oliver, 14, died at the Spanish Town Hospital.
Oliver’s 26-year-old sister and her three-year-old son, who were both hit with the sledge hammer, were last night battling for life in hospital. The woman is suffering from a wound to the back of her head.
The five were at their Telfer Avenue home in Twickenham Heights, an upscale neighbourhood on the outskirts of the old capital of Spanish Town, when Oliver reportedly went berserk after accusing them of practising witchcraft.
Yesterday afternoon, the death house was empty, and residents of the area were, for the most part, tight-lipped when asked about Thursday night’s tragedy.
“He was the only breadwinner after his father died and it seemed like he buckled under that pressure.,” one neighbour said.
Last night, the Spanish Town police appealed to persons who knew where he was to contact them.
