Phillips meets Dom Rep envoy
National Security Minister Dr Peter Phillips makes a point as he reviews brochures about the Dominican Republic with that country’s ambassador to Jamaica Filomena Navarro Tavarez during a meeting at his office last week.
Phillips and Ambassador Navarro Tavarez discussed a number of issues, including co-operation for security and law enforcement matters between the two countries.
He is expected to travel to the Dominican Republic next month to attend a meeting hosted by President Leonel Fernadez Reyna where both men will discuss matters affecting the region, including organised crime, trade in illegal narcotics, and illegal arms and ammunition.
During last week’s meeting, Ambassador Navarro Tavarez sought assistance in facilitating the travel of nearly 100 business persons, entertainers, craftsmen, technicians and artists to Jamaica to participate in the embassy’s trade fair later this month.
Minister Phillips gave the assurance that Jamaica would assist in the process.
At the end of the meeting, the minister and the ambassador exchanged gifts.
