Three ticketed for urinating in public
THREE men were yesterday issued $2,000 tickets for urinating in public, while a fourth man was ticketed for discarding a used phone card on the ground, under the National Solid Waste Management Authority’s (NSWMA’s) anti-litter pilot programme that got under way in Kingston, Portmore and Montego Bay yesterday.
The four men were ticketed in downtown Kingston, while 20 others were warned that they would be prosecuted if caught littering again, according to John Knight, assistant commander of the Agriculture and Environmental Unit at Harman Barracks in Kingston.
Figures for the number of persons ticketed in Montego Bay, St James and Portmore, St Catherine were not available at press time.
However, Phillip Morgan, senior investigator in charge of the NSWMA’s anti-littering ticketing programme in Montego Bay, said that more than 100 persons – some caught urinating on the street and others seen dropping garbage – were warned instead of ticketed.
Persons ticketed have up to 21 days from the day the tickets were issued to pay at the NSWMA office in their respective areas or risk being taken to court.
