Two dead, three injured in four-vehicle collision
Two men were killed yesterday and three other people injured in a four-vehicle collision along the Spur Tree main road in Manchester.
According to the police, a white Kenworth truck, laden with tiles, was descending the Spur Tree Hill around 5:30 pm when the driver lost control of the vehicle and slammed into a Honda CRV which was heading in the opposite direction.
The force of the collision sent the CRV crashing back into a Toyota Noah Townace motor vehicle, which was also ascending the hill. The Noah then went crashing into an International Truck loaded with sugar cane that was descending the hill ahead of the Kenworth truck. The International truck, the police said, then overturned onto the Noah before spilling its content.
According to Sergeant Dahlia Garrick of the Constabulary Communication Network, one of the dead was identified as Michael Lopez, a businessman of Greenvale in Mandeville. He was driving the Toyota Noah Townace. The other was the driver of the Kenworth truck, whose name was not ascertained.
The driver of the International truck was treated and released, while the female driver of the CRV, who was reportedly pinned in the vehicle for over an hour before being freed, and another of the injured were admitted in stable condition.
