Boy dies in crash, parents injured
A seven-year-old boy was killed Wednesday and his parents injured when the SUV in which they were travelling was allegedly slammed by another vehicle, then overturned in a ditch along the Toll Gate main road in Clarendon.
Police said yesterday that the dead boy, Kheel Palmer, was not wearing his seat belt and was flung from the back seat of the car to the front and hit his head during the impact. He also sustained a broken rib, the police said.
Kheel died while undergoing treatment at the May Pen Hospital in Clarendon.
His parents, Garfield Palmer and Delinda Chablal sustained only minor injuries and were treated and released, according to the police.
The three, the police said, were travelling to Kingston in a Lexus RX 300 SUV about 6:30 pm when a motorist travelling behind them went into the adjoining lane and attempted to overtake their vehicle. However, police said the driver, realising that it would be difficult to overtake safely because of the oncoming traffic, swerved back into his lane and got into difficulties, then slammed into the side of the Lexus. The impact of the collision pushed the Lexus off the road and into a ditch, after which it overturned.
