Chinelle Campbell and Shaun Ellis top 4-H competition
MONTEGO BAY, St James –
Sixteen-year-old Chinelle Campbell of Montego Bay High School and 11-year-old Shaun Ellis of Catherine Hall Primary walked away with the coveted title of Mr and Miss 4-H at Monday’s 8th annual Tropicana Nyammins and Jammins Food Festival.
One of the largest of its kind, the annual food festival, which was staged at the Catherine Hall Entertainment Centre, represents the main fund-raiser of the St James 4-H Advisory Council which administers financing of 4-H activities in the parish.
Sponsored by Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) and Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) among other corporate entities, this year’s event featured contemporary Reggae and dancehall as well as gospel artistes. Prizes and giveaways also came in from major sponsors such as Tropicana, Grace Foods and the Observer.
As customery, the organisers outdid themselves providing entertainment with an impressive kiddies village complete with rides and games, face painting, food court as well as a wide array of toys on sale, which was a haven for the hundreds of kiddy patrons.
“I feel great,” Ellis said shortly after his win. He credited the 4-H for giving him a wonderful opportunity to learn more about his country and culture.
For her part Campbell said she would use the opportunity to embark on an awareness programme to spread the message of 4-H in schools throughout the parish.
