A man who stabbed a woman twice along busy Barnett Street on New Year’s Eve, was remanded in police custody after appearing in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Twenty-seven-year-old Dwayne Elliot of a Peace View, Albion address, is alleged to have told a policeman – who chased and held him after witnessing the incident – that he was after the woman’s man next.

The court heard that the woman – who has to be hospitalised as a result of her injuries – was walking along Barnett Street on December 31 last year, when she felt someone holding onto her bag.

On turning, she saw Elliot, with whom she was familiar.

He stabbed at her but missed.

She fell, the court was told, and he stabbed her twice before passersby intervened.

A police officer was close by and saw what was going on then chased and held the man who the court heard told him, “Me stab har, is har man me want now.”

The woman, who was in court showed the court bandages on her left side and on her thigh from the wounds.

It was heard that Elliot used to make sexual advances towards the complainant but was rebuffed.

Elliot told the court, however, that he was attacked and stabbed in his back in Sam Sharpe Square by the complainant’s boyfriend in September and was hospitalised as a result.

He is scheduled to return to court on January 20 when the case will be mentioned.
