Professors Wilks, Figueroa and Forrester to be honoured at ACPJ banquet
CONSULTANT physicians Professors Rainford Wilks, Peter Figueroa and Terrence Forrester will be honoured by the Association of Consultant Physicians of Jamaica (ACPJ) at its seventh annual banquet tomorrow at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston.
Wilks is professor of epidemiology and director of the Epidemiology Research Unit (ERU) at the Tropical Medicine Research Institute (TMRI), University of the West Indies (UWI).
Figueroa is professor of public health, epidemiology and HIV/AIDS in the Department of Community Health & Psychiatry at the UWI, Mona, while Professor Terrence Forrester is the director of the TMRI.
The banquet will be preceded by the association’s seventh symposium which will also be held at the Jamaica Pegasus under the theme ‘Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases in the Caribbean – Meeting the Challenges’.
The symposium, which will be opened by Health Minister Rudyard Spencer, will also feature the Wilbert Jeffery-Smith Wilson Lecture on Violence Prevention in Jamaica by Dr Elizabeth Ward.
Wilks, Terrence and other distinguished consultant physicians, including professors S Teelucksingh, Anslem Hennis, and Drs Michael Boyne, Rosemarie Wright-Pascoe, Knox Hagley and Hopeton Falconer, will also make presentations.
Guest speaker will be the UWI Chancellor Sir George Alleyne, who is also an accomplished physician, international health industry expert and patron of the ACPJ.
