Kingston in Kingston
It will be the first time that international reggae-influenced recording artiste Sean Kingston will be performing in Kingston, and by all indications he intends to make his premier in Jamaica’s capital one to remember.
With a fresh album released in September, Tomorrow, and a slew of rhythmic and infectious hit singles like Suicidal, Take You There, and Beautiful Girls, patrons can look forward to a full-fledged feature performance from Kingston – who was born Kisean Jamal Anderson.
Sean Kingston will not forget to give Jamaicans a taste of the musical adventure he calls Tomorrow, which is his sophomore studio album, which he maintains “is ahead of its time”. The 14-track album was released on September 22, and has been racking up critical acclaim and chart successes.
Featuring some awesome collaborations from some of the biggest names in music today, including of-The-Moment rapper Lil’ Wayne, Senegalese superstar Akon, Haitian recording artiste and producer Wyclef Jean and Pop princess Gwen Stefani.
“I wanted to be different, and I wanted to do something that was new,” Sean Kingston said, adding that “It’s definitely not something that you’d hear on the radio every day, I wanted to go a little big left with it so that’s why it’s called Tomorrow. The songs on it aren’t songs that people would expect from Sean Kingston”
“Look at even Fire Burnin’. It’s different, because it’s got Reggae, R&B, Techno, and Pop. It’s mostly Reggae, but it’s still very different, because nobody touches Techno right now, so for me to do that, it was just way out there. It’s not stuff that’s on the everyday radio and that’s the stuff this album is made of,” he explained.
The singer comes to Kingston to perform at the Cable and Wireless Golf Academy, as Coke Zero presents Sean Kingston in Concert, an event that the beverage’s country manager Chris Hardy says will make an indelible splash on the entertainment scene.
Hardy just might be right, as Sean Kingston is getting ready to share the stage with the sweet Coke Zero artistes , Chino, and D’Angel in addition to an impressive cadre of local stars such as Etana, Tifa, Laden, Alaine, Tessanne Chin, Elephant Man, Ding Dong and Demarco.
“Firstly, the price for admission is only $100. That’s right, take $100 to any branch of Mothers’ or Burger King, along with three Coke Zero caps, and you get your ticket. There’s no better deal out there,” Hardy said.
Hardy says the concert is the brand’s way of saying thanks to Jamaica for the “epic and wholesome response the country had to the product”.
Adding that there will be “lots of other surprises on the promotion trail that is just gonna take over Jamaica. Coke Zero is a brand with a lot of energy, and generates a lot of excitement and it’s the brand that we associate with anything to do with music and entertainment, and this is our own production, so you know it’s going to be very sweet”.
With feature performances from platinum-selling, dancehall-flavoured international artiste Sean Kingston, alongside Elephant Man, D’Angel, Chino, Laden, Demarco, , the Coke Zero concert is set to ignite the entertainment calendar for 2010 as it takes over the grounds of the Cable and Wireless Golf Academy on Saturday January 16. Tickets are available at any branch of Mothers or Burger King Restaurants, and may be collected by redeeming three Coke Zero labels and $100.
