W’House-TG draw good for H’View
WATERHOUSE and Tivoli Gardens lost ground on leaders Harbour View after battling to a 0-0 draw in the feature Digicel Premier League match at Drewsland on Wednesday.
The result means Harbour View (48) have stretched their lead to six points after they beat Boys’ Town 1-0 at Collie Smith Complex.
Tivoli coach Lenworth Hyde was not disappointed with the point, but thought his team scored a legitimate goal which was disallowed by referee Kevin Morrison minutes after Waterhouse’s Nicholi Findlayson was ejected in the 63rd minute for a second bookable offence.
“To get a point from Waterhouse, I’m not perturbed… but we got some good look-in at goal when they went down. But we should have won the game because we scored a goal and it was disallowed by the referee,” said Hyde.
In a keenly contested first half which the home team dominated, it was the visitors who came closest to scoring, with Navion Boyd heading inches wide in the first minute.
Jerry Walters then tested Richard McCallum after 20 minutes, but his effort from inside the area went just over the crossbar.
Steve Green had a similarly threatening strike from just outside the area, which McCallum had to watch all the way.
Waterhouse’s best chance fell to Kevin Lamey late in the half, but Victor Thompson’s challenge forced him to head wide of target.
In the last minute of the half, Vincent Earle received a pass from a quickly taken free-kick and struck a low grounder that Edsel Scott had to parry around his post for a corner.
Waterhouse took the ascendancy on the resumption, and Earle again tested Scott with two well-taken strikes from outside the box, but Scott was well placed on both occasions.
Midway the half, Jonathan Williams just missed the target from the edge of the box after a good exchange with Findlayson.
But minutes later, big defender Findlayson picked up his second yellow card of the game after a tackle on Boyd, and was ejected.
The visitors tried to cash-in on their numerical advantage, and soon afterwards, Walters won possession in midfield and played wide for Christopher Jackson.
The latter provided a perfect cross for the midfielder, who redirected the ball past McCullum, only to be ruled offside.
As both teams pressed for the winner, Keammar Daley got the chance to steal the game for Tivoli.
After racing onto a raking pass across field from Jackson, and with McCallum at his mercy, Daley muffed his chance as he tried to sidefoot first-time past the ‘keeper from 10 yards, giving the latter an easy save.
Waterhouse’s coach Geoffrey Maxwell said it was an evenly contested affair, but his team could have stolen the winner in the second half.
“With a little more creativity we probably could have scored the winning goal… but Tivoli got chances also, so I must give credit to both goalkeepers who were the outstanding players of the game,” he said.
