Cassanova Boy irrepressible in Eros Trophy
CASSANOVA Boy, the very impressive American-bred colt, remained unbeaten on local soil after claiming his seventh consecutive win in the 12th running of the $1,188,000 Eros Trophy Grade One feature at Caymanas Park yesterday.
Unlike on other occasions when he had things his own way, yesterday’s calling was much different as second past the post Ministeroffinance forced the American import to display an unusual turn of foot 50 metres from home to be unsaddled in the winner’s enclosure.
Again well ridden by Omar Walker Cassanova Boy who experienced a bit of traffic problem from a loose horse on the track at the beginning of the race began to throw out his challenge entering the 800 metres post to bring them into the lane.
Trained by Wayne DaCosta Cassanova Boy carrying 59.5kg began launching his victory bid taking the longest route and assume the lead just before turning for home. But the race was not over just yet as is the custom.
Dick Cardenas aboard Ministeroffinance will have none of that and moved the 1,000 metres track record holder into a challenging position on the heels of the leader.
After turning for home Cassanova Boy seemed to be idling in his tracks just before entering the final 50 metres. Ministeroffinance, a 5-1 chance, who had thrown out a serious challenge to the classy American turning up the lane got his head in front but only briefly as Walker sensing the competition got busy aboard Cassanova Boy who responded with a big leap away from his challenger to win by 2 1/2 lengths.
New Kingston the mount of Wesley Henry and stable mate of the winner was third with He’s Really Ok ridden by Paul Francis completing the frame at odds of 4-1.
Owned by E DaCosta, G Dulal-Whiteway, W Kong & Raymond Rousseau Cassanova Boy a four-year-old grey gelding by Najran out of Gender Bias (Saratoga Six) was bred by Frank Penn & John P Penn in the USA.
