It’s Usher vs Justin Bieber on the Billboard chart
It’s hard not to notice the battle on the US album charts between seasoned R&B crooner Usher and newcomer Justin Bieber.
Sixteen-year-old Bieber released his sophomore album My World 2.0 a week before Usher’s Raymond vs Raymond collection. Bieber’s disc moved some 283,000 copies in its first full week at retail to take over the number one spot on the Billboard 200 album chart.
Usher’s Raymond vs Raymond removed Justin disc from the number one spot with a whopping 329,000 copies sold. But while Usher is the king of the hill this week, the party just might come to an abrupt end. According to early statistics, Bieber could retain the number one spot based on projections that the album could move between 100,000 to 115,000 copies next week.
Bieber is the youngest solo male recording artiste to score a number one album on the Billboard 200, since Little Stevie Wonder pulled the hat trick at age 13 in 1963 with the album Little Stevie Wonder/The 12 year old Genius.
Raymond vs Raymond is Usher’s third album to reach the number one spot on the Billboard 200. His previous chart topping titles were 2008’s Here I Stand (which moved 443,000 copies in its first week); and 2004’s Confessions.
Bieber is currently riding the charts with the singles Baby featuring Ludacris, Never Let You Go, and U Smile. Usher on the other hand has littered the R&B and pop charts with the singles Lil Freak featuring new rap ‘it girl’ Nicki Minaj; Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home) featuring rapper Plies; and There Goes My Baby. His new single OMG featuring will.i.am debuted at number 14 on the Hot 100 singles chart a week ago.
Ironically, Usher is the executive producer for Bieber’s album My World 2.0.
