Waterhouse blank Boys’ Town in DPL
SECOND-half goals by Kevin Lamey and Andre Clennon carried Waterhouse to 2-0 win over All-Island knockout champions Boys’ Town in the Digicel Premier League football Sunday evening at Drewsland.
The victory, Waterhouse’s first from two outings in the top six play-off, ensured that the Geoffrey Maxwell-coached team remain in third position on 53 points in the nation’s top flight — 17 behind leaders Harbour View with three games remaining.
Although Waterhouse came out victors, it was the visitors Boys’ Town, who dominated the first 55 minutes with some slick passing in midfield through Michael Campbell, Andre Wheeler, Marvin Morgan Sr and Romondo Johnson.
In fact, Waterhouse was kept in the match by their custodian Richard McCallum, who pulled off two spectacular saves on either side of the half-time interval.
The national goalkeeper dived at full stretch to his left to catch a rasping 25-yard shot by Morgan Sr in the 29th minute.
The agile custodian, pulled off another excellent save in the 49th minute, tipping the ball over the cross-bar after Boys’ Town’s midfield general Campbell, had unleashed a 20-yard shot, which looked destined for the top left-hand corner of the goal.
Veteran striker Kevin Lamey gave Waterhouse the lead against the run of play in the 59th minute, just 15 minutes after replacing the ineffective Jermaine Anderson.
Lamey tapped in from close range after Boys’ Town’s goalkeeper Philmore Crumbie parried a powerful shot by Kemar Thomas onto the cross-bar.
Having conceded the goal, the Red Brigade, who were without regular head coach Andrew Price, went to pieces as they failed to capitalise on three free-kicks around the penalty box.
Conversely, Waterhouse found new life and sealed the victory through Andre Clennon in the 72nd minute.
Three minutes after being replacing Vincent Earl, substitute Adrian King whipped in a low cross from the left flank to find the burly Clennon, who side-footed past Crumbie.
