This week Career Walk focuses on pharmacologyt. There is a constant need for Pharmacists in Jamaica, as this isn’t a popular career choice. However, it shouldn’t be overlooked as it is a very lucrative profession, especially if you are successful enough to run your own pharmacy.

The following personality test can help in determining your personality classification. This is just a guide and may not always accurately determine an individual’s personality classification. Knowing your personality type will guide you to your career type.

Pharmacist

Pharmacists dispense prescription drugs to patients. They provide information about those drugs and help patients understand the instructions their doctors or other health practitioners provide. They monitor their patients’ health and progress to ensure their medications are working effectively and safely. To become a pharmacist, you need a Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm). You need CSEC passes in English language, biology, mathematics, chemistry and at least one other science subject in addition to at least two CAPE passes in chemistry and either biology, physics or mathematics.

This career choice requires that one has good interpersonal and communicative skills and can interact with other persons. They must be knowledgeable about illnesses and diseases as well as the symptoms. Pharmacists working in independent pharmacies may become owners or part-owners after they gain experience and secure the necessary capital. In addition to finding job opportunities as pharmacists in private and public institutions, graduates can also obtain employment as managers of pharmaceutical manufacturing operations, medical representatives for drug companies, agents of pharmacy and drug regulation in the Ministry of Health, medical consultants and researchers.
