ROSEAU, Dominica (CMC) — Chris Gayle roasted the bowlers, after South Africa successfully chased 304 for victory in the fourth One-Day International against West Indies on Sunday.

The West Indies captain was grumpy, following a seven-wicket defeat that condemned West Indies to trail 0-4 in the five-match series.

“I am very disappointed with a few bowlers,” said Gayle.

“When I asked them to do something, they can’t actually do it, and it doesn’t make sense having them in the team.”

There also seems to be something brewing between Gayle and beanpole left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn.

Observers were under the impression that Benn left the field with an injury, after conceding 22 runs from four overs, but Gayle said: “Sulieman didn’t have an injury. Basically, I asked him to do a job, and he couldn’t deliver, so it doesn’t

make sense.”

Gayle was clearly disappointed with the result, although it came down to the very last ball of the match.

“Credit must go to Bravo for the way he bowled the final over,” he said. “But to get 300 runs, and lose was not good.

“We should have scored at least 30 or 40 more runs based on the start that Dale (Richards) and I gave the team, but we were very disappointing in the middle overs again, too many dot balls.”

He added: “But South Africa are in good batting form right now, and they took the game away from us, especially with the way Amla batted.

“We also missed a few catches, and this is the inconsistency. At times, we do well with the bat, and then turn up and do something completely different with the ball.

“I am very disappointed, and feel heartbroken for our fans, who turned up in their numbers for this match.”

The series comes to a close on Thursday with the fifth and final ODI taking place at Queen’s Park Oval in the Trinidad & Tobago capital of Port of Spain.
